Bihar policeman who fired AK-47 during student protest suspended
A Bihar Police constable, Abhishek Patel, has been suspended and faces a departmental inquiry after a video purportedly showed him firing an AK-47 during student protests in Siwan district.
The incident took place during the statewide Bihar Bandh, called by student organisations protesting alleged paper leaks and irregularities in national entrance examinations.
According to officials, the constable allegedly fired multiple rounds into the air despite no order being given to open fire.
Three people reportedly suffered bullet injuries during the clashes, including a 15-year-old bystander who required surgery after being shot in the neck. Authorities are investigating the source of the bullets.
The viral footage sparked political criticism and demands for accountability. A petition has also reportedly been moved before the Supreme Court seeking a judicial investigation and action against the police officials involved.
